Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Resident Engineer we'll count on you to:

  • Manage a staff of construction inspectors, office engineers and administrative staff
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the contract documents and code requirements
  • Ensure work is performed safely, on time and within budget
  • Coordinate work with clients and other stakeholders
  • Perform value engineering and constructability reviews
  • Review contractor's requests for additional compensation
  • Prepare change order documentation and negotiate fair and reasonable settlements
  • Chair project progress meetings and other project related meetings
  • Ensure contract payments reflect accurate quantities and are made in a timely manner
  • Ensure contracts are closed out in a timely manner and all required permits to occupy/use are obtained

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
  • 10 years related experience in various aspects of construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering on civil related projects
  • PE
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Primavera P6, COMPASS and AASHTOWare
  • Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Connecticut DOT experience
  • Local candidates preferred
