Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Junior Coastal Engineer to join our Coastal team in New York, NY. Other locations along the east coast are possible but not preferred. As part of the Coastal Group, this position will assist in the planning and design for urban waterfront and coastal projects, including modeling and analysis, marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments, cruise ship facilities, wetland restoration, dredging, shore protection structures, and flood walls.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support modeling and analysis.
  • Also support the planning and design for urban waterfront and coastal projects, including marinas, marine terminals, urban waterfront developments, cruise ship facilities, wetland restoration, dredging, shore protection structures, and flood walls, as well as other coastal projects.
  • Assist in research to support opportunities and projects.
  • Assist in calculations to support engineering or environmental documents.
  • Assists with fieldwork, such as instrument handling and deployment.
  • Assists engineers or scientists with inspections.
  • Collaborates with other team members.
  • Participation in meetings, Teams or Zoom or educational seminars.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Coastal or Ocean engineering
  • 1 - 4 years of experience as a Coastal Engineer; required
  • EIT certification; preferred
  • Software experience required;
    • ADCIRC & SWAN proficiency preferred.
    • Coastal modeling software; preferred.
  • FEMA and SMS experience are a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$39 to $47 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the New York City markets.

Working conditions:

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
