The pay for this position ranges from $109,000 - $127,000.

FuelCell Energy, Inc. has an opening for Continuous Improvement Engineer - Power Systems out of Danbury, Connecticut.

Job Duties:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve the overall fuel cell power plant system architecture, functional requirements, designs, and related documentation.
  • Identify/design site-specific requirements, electrical equipment, and configurations, including unique applications like MicroGrids.
  • Understand and continuously improve the behavior of the fuel cell power plant inverter system, confronted with all types of electrical grid variations, to maximize uptime, including working closely with key electrical equipment suppliers and becoming an expert on inverter operations, tuning, and standardization in collaboration with Controls Engineering.
  • Perform analyses including: reliability, harmonics, load flow, etc. Analyze and interpret data.
  • Design and conduct experiments to verify and validate designs. Interface with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Project Management, equipment suppliers, contractors, Service, Business Development, etc. to drive power plant development, installation, and design continuous improvement.
  • Conceptualize and design control panels and power distribution panels. Integrate VFD-driven pumps, blower systems, A/D & D/A components, and processes.
  • Originate, develop and review engineering drawings (including electrical one-line and three-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, and equipment wiring diagrams).
  • Work with Project Management, Business Development, etc. to facilitate Interconnect Agreements as a technical expert.
  • Ensure the company's designs evolve as needed with the change of regulations, standards (e.g. IEEE), etc. Create single-line & 3-line drawings for Sure Source 1500 & Sure Source 3000 projects.
  • Develop and program the settings for switchgear Relays.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of Electrical and control-related issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Determine Electrical and Mechanical requirements, create technical procedures for installing new products in the field.
  • Modify PLC logic to meet new functional changes described in the control philosophy.
  • Support testing and commissioning of new Electrical equipment such as Power Conditioning units, Inverters, DC & AC Load Levelers, etc.
  • Develop, test, and verify VFD parameters for various mechanical equipment like blowers, fans & pumps.
  • Design Communication drawings and program data points for SCADA devices like RTAC, and RTU, etc.
  • Create initiatives for having a better performance of the electrical & mechanical components as a part of continuous improvement.
  • Create the reactive capability data for power conditioning units.
  • Position is 100% remote; may work from home. 5-10% domestic travel is required.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field and at least 3 years of experience as a Design Engineer (or related role) in a power systems industry. In the alternative, at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field and at least 5 years of progressive experience as a Design Engineer (or related role) in a power systems industry would be acceptable.
  • At least 3 years of experience with testing, validation, product launch, support, and continuous improvement of Cable, Breaker, Component sizing, Power Metering, VFD Drives, UPS systems
  • At least 3 years of experience with Power Conversion and Distribution Equipment (Inverters, Transformers, Etc.)
  • At least 3 years of experience with continuous improvement processes including Six Sigma, DoE, and/or Weibull), as well as statistical analysis
  • At least 3 years of experience with Instrument Layout & Details, Logic Diagrams, Instrument Loop Diagrams
  • At least 3 years of experience working with international supplier sites including working with technical and non-technical stakeholders

The salary range for this position is $109,000.00 to $127,000 per year.
