The Technology Sourcing organization provides timely and effective procurement services and value-added strategic sourcing solutions to the global stakeholders throughout the Thomson Reuters organization. This role is within a matrixed environment of the global sourcing group, supporting Thomson Reuters business objectives by delivering the optimal cost and value benefits to the company.

This individual contributor role will support and/or manage Technology Sourcing activities across any/all technology categories and/or sub categories as assigned. This individual will take direction from the Category Head and implement the strategies set forth and communicated by the Technology Sourcing leadership team. This individual will indirectly assist business leaders in managing their respective P&L's with regards to technology spending, planning, and development of supplier relationships critical to their respective lines of business.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

General Activity

  • Assist in developing and implementing a sourcing and procurement category strategy aligned with the Technology Sourcing groups' objectives
  • Lead major negotiations and large sourcing engagements including process activities such as e-sourcing, RFx, Project management, etc., as assigned
  • Apply strategic sourcing practices and manage supplier negotiations to ensure full benefits are realized and sustained
  • Make recommendations and/or provide effective input to stakeholder financial goals and/or plans as it relates to assigned sourcing assignments
  • Continuously manage priorities effectively, focusing on efficient work results
  • Ensure priorities are handled effectively by modifying plans and actions in your own area of accountability
  • Manage a project against a plan and objectives to ensure commitments are met by monitoring, assessing, and resolving variances in budget, timing or quality of work
  • Monitor and keep up to date with related category supplier specific business activities as well as the extended category industry
  • Present/update all pertinent supplier and/or industry issues to stakeholders and immediate management and propose recommendations as they apply to existing strategies

Business Partnership and Relationships

  • Create and foster key internal and external relationships across all Thomson Reuters geographies as assigned
  • Manage and maintain effective communications to key stakeholders within the technology community as appropriate for all assigned projects and as a Business as Usual activity
  • Meet regularly with stakeholders to present current and planned sourcing strategies to maintain alignment with the business' objectives

Core Function Activity

  • Influence suppliers' manufacturing and development processes, technology decisions and policies in ways that are mutually beneficial and sustainable for both organizations
  • Renegotiate, renew, and discontinue supplier agreements or contracts as appropriate
  • Analyze industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and exploit emerging opportunities
  • Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models
  • Review and approve a comprehensive list of Approved Suppliers for bid processes developed by analyzing the industry to better understand trends and competitive positioning. This is to assure selection and use of the best possible supply base
  • Develop a negotiation strategy that delivers against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers
  • Implement supplier agreements/contracts by working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers to reach agreement on terms and conditions
  • Provide product and service expertise to specified associates to build knowledge base and expertise
  • Experience in managing activity with blue chip suppliers such as Microsoft, IBM, HP, Patney, WiPro
  • Monitor and directly impact supplier behavior and activities to maintain continuous improvement in the suppliers delivery of products and services to the business

Drive and Deliver Results

  • Achieve profit margin improvements for the business through proactive and creative sourcing approaches with the business, the global sourcing team, and the supply market
  • Develop, manage, and measure key supplier relationships as assigned
  • Achieve targeted results against Tech Sourcing objectives which include a group cost savings goal identified annually and typically in excess of $50M
  • Ensure effective process and communication channels are in place to maximize the delivery and implementation of any sourcing activities
  • Maintain and present market analysis to the Category Head and business leaders, regarding product and service development opportunities
  • Directly assist in the effective transition from current practices to any new models including migration to new sourcing systems and purchasing processes

SCOPE AND IMPACT

This position will have indirect budget responsibilities and direct impact to Thomson Reuters' $1.5B total addressable technology spend. This position also provides significant guidance in helping stakeholders plan and manage budgets to account for ongoing operational costs related to third party spend.

Qualifications
Previous Experience
  • 8 years of sourcing and procurement experience
  • Experience leading major sourcing negotiations in various categories
  • Experience leading large scale or enterprise sourcing activities
  • Experience implementing a category strategy in the technology supply chain arena
  • Experience in supporting and operating in a global, matrixed environment
Education
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Membership with ISM, CIPS or equivalent preferred
  • Participation on Supply Chain Management board, roundtables, or equivalent is preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Clear understanding of Blue Chip Supplier Market
  • Clear understanding of Sourcing processes
  • Strong negotiator with expertise in legal terms and conditions
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Analytical and strategic thinker
  • A broad understanding of sourcing trends and their commercial application
  • Strong knowledge of targeted technology information systems infrastructure and use, i.e., servers, storage, software, networks, data centers, personal computing and key suppliers in these areas
